How to get Written Testimonials

We know what a powerful tool testimonials can be when it comes to building credibility and generating new business, also very important to know how to successfully use testimonials and how to ask for them.

First off, there are three keys to successfully using written testimonials:

1) Ask for testimonials at every opportunity.
2) Guide the content of your testimonials.
3) Update your testimonials.

So at what point in the sales cycle should you ask clients (or other contacts) for testimonials?
This is a tricky question, but in general, ask for a testimonial before its time–which may be before, at or after completion of a sale or project, depending on your client, your product or service and your own needs.

Let’s say that one month before finishing a project, you call your client to ask how things are going. The client tells you that she’s very happy with the results and that her life or business has changed for the better because of your product or service. At this point, your testimonial detector should be pinging loudly. It’s the right time to make your pitch: “That would be a great thing for other people to know about my company. Would you be willing to write me a testimonial on your company letterhead by the end of the week?”

If the answer is yes, the next step is to coach your client in writing a testimonial that fits your needs. Ask her to tell why she chose to work with you, how she benefited from your products or services, how you solved a problem for her and what other people should know about your business.

What things are most people concerned about when using a business like yours? Ask her to address those issues. Don’t be afraid to offer suggestions; you’ll make it easier for her to write an appropriate testimonial, and the results will be more valuable to you.

Finally, review your testimonial file or binder at least every two to three years to identify testimonials that are no longer valid or credible. Specifically, you may want to discard or refile a testimonial that:

• Is from a company that’s no longer in business
• Is/was written by someone who has left the company
• Represents a product or service that you no longer offer
• Has begun to turn yellow with age or
• Needs to be updated with new statistics from the customer

One more thing: Remember the law of reciprocity? It works here, too. If you want to motivate someone to write you a testimonial, write one for him or her first.

Last weekend, my wife Beth and I were on a weekend trip. We wanted to go out for a nice dinner but weren’t quite sure where to go since we weren’t all that familiar with the town we were in. As Beth perused a local magazine for restaurant reviews, I logged onto the internet to search for the top-rated restaurants in the area. We settled on a steakhouse that was a more than a little bit out of the way and not so easy to get to. Why? Because the restaurant had phenomenal reviews both online and in the local magazine. That was enough to convince us we should take our business there because we were likely have a great experience.

So it is in business. Before people come to you for a particular product or service, they often want the comfort of knowing what others have said about you. Testimonials carry a level of credibility because they come from someone who has direct experience with your product or service. Consumers generally place more trust in a testimonial from another consumer than in a business’s own marketing message. They believe the average person is unbiased and has nothing to gain from providing a testimonial. This business stands to gain–or lose–everything, so its own words are seen as less trustworthy.

Have you ever asked a satisfied client for a written testimonial? I recommend making this standard practice for your business.

Written testimonials can be used in many ways to enhance your credibility and set you above your competition. Here are some key ways to use testimonials:

1. Place them on your business’s website. Some websites have them strategically sprinkled throughout so there’s at least one testimonial on each page. Others have a dedicated page where a browser can view several testimonials at once.

2. If your business attracts a lot of walk-in clients, it’s helpful to display your written testimonials, each encased in a plastic sheet protector, in a three-ring binder labeled “What our customers say about us” or “Client Testimonials.” Keep this binder on a table in your reception area, where your customers can browse through it while waiting for services. It’s a good way to connect with your prospects and enhance your relationship with current clients.

3. Include testimonials with your business proposals. This works best if you have a wide variety to choose from; you can include a section of testimonials that are most relevant to a specific proposal.

If you make it standard practice to ask clients and contacts for testimonials, you’ll build your credibility and your business.

Developing Entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurship is a mindset. Many studies indicate that a large percentage of first-graders show all kinds of signs of creativity and innovation and entrepreneurialism, but our school systems drill this out of students through a system of learning that presents a correct way – meaning only one way – to do and think about things. As a result, the natural impulse of children to be entrepreneurial is dampened. Carl Schramm

“Learning entrepreneurship does NOT begin by teaching accounting, finance, and business plan writing. Much more important is learning how to apply creativity to a business idea,” Schramm continued.

The process of becoming an entrepreneur is an ongoing learning experience. The question for each of us as entrepreneurs, business owners and citizens is, “What am I doing to promote true entrepreneurialism in my employees, my family, my community and my self?

Entrepreneurship is truly a way of living – are you living it today? Are you promoting it for others today? What will you do to encourage, inspire or support the entrepreneurial instincts and inclination of those you will interact with today? What you do to promote the entrepreneurial path matters, and with the state of the global economy today, it matters more than ever.

Ways BEYOND THE SECRET Differs From The Secret

Excerpt from BEYOND THE SECRET: Spiritual Power and the Law of Attraction http://ping.fm/LwpGy

Throughout this book I have attempted to reveal to you a “secret” that is much more profound and meaningful to your life than the one illustrated in The Secret. It is my hope this book sets you on a more solid path so you can use the law of attraction safely and well. Along these lines let me clarify succinctly the contrasts that exist between The Secret and Beyond the Secret so you when using the law of attraction you will no longer be misled or confused. Some assertions of The Secret that differ from Beyond the Secret .

1. The Great Secret of Life is the law of attraction — The Secret. The Great Secret of life is the secret of Spirit! – Beyond the Secret

2. You are the most powerful magnet in the universe – The Secret Who are “you?” Who is the “you” that is doing the thinking? Your spiritual self? Your ego? How can you discern between the two? – Beyond the Secret

3. Ask the Universe for what you want — The Secret Ask the Universe to reveal to you what it wants you to attract and manifest for the sake of service — Beyond the Secret

4. It takes no time for the Universe to manifest what you want — The Secret The Universe may never manifest what you want especially if it is seeking to abort your egotistical impulses — Beyond the Secret

5. Like attracts like. Thoughts are magnetic and have a frequency – The Secret. Yes, so strive to be and live in higher, or soul, consciousness first, or you will only attract the thoughts and magnetic frequency of the ego – Beyond the Secret

6. Thoughts become things. – The Secret. Consciousness becomes Being. Learn to be more conscious so that your thoughts are not motivated by unconscious, subconscious, ignorant, or egotistical impulses – Beyond the Secret

7. Nothing can come into your experience unless you summon it through your persistent thoughts — The Secret. Though you are essentially Spirit, the sum total of Spirit manifests in everyone and everything. The mind of Spirit is greater than yours and It can attract events to you that you may not have thought about or wanted in the slightest for the sake of your spiritual growth — Beyond the Secret

8. You create reality — The Secret Yes, “you” as Spirit create reality. But “you” as a human being with a limited consciousness and brain primarily interpret reality and can do so by creating either soul stories or ego stories. Whatever story you choose creates the direction of your dominant thought patterns and sets up the probability that you will live in either a spiritual or egotistical way on this earth — Beyond the Secret

9. A shortcut to manifesting your desires is see what you want as absolute fact — The Secret The ego is always afraid it will not get what it wants, which is why it is prone to absolutes. As you learn to at-one with Spirit your ego is less absolute, more humble, and more willing to let things unfold instead of always attempting to direct the show — Beyond the Secret

10. It is impossible to feel bad and have good thoughts — The Secret It is possible to feel bad in the form of healthy guilt and shame and have bad thoughts that ultimately motivate you to want to change and become a better, more loving, and spiritual person — Beyond the Secret

11. Good feelings attract good things, bad feelings attract bad things — The Secret There are no good and bad feelings. Both can serve in either a positive or negative way. Bad feelings may have a constructive purpose if they are waking your ego up to the fact that it needs to develop soul values. Good feelings can have a destructive purpose if they lead you to feel good simply about indulging your ego. So, move beyond if a feeling is good or bad and try to discover how to use all feelings in a more conscious and spiritual way — Beyond the Secret

12. “Don’t want” means you really want it — The Secret. “Don’t want” can mean you don’t want it. Both “don’t want” (the law of repulse) and “do want” (the law of attraction) are valuable in this world — Beyond the Secret

13. Only do what “feels good” — The Secret Attempt to do what “feels right.” Feel good by doing good — Beyond the Secret

14. Ask, believe, and receive – The Secret. Surrender, align, and contribute. – Beyond the Secret

15. What you resist you attract — The Secret Yes, and the ego always resists anything that isn’t for only its own good. Counter your ego’s resistance by learning to surrender to what Spirit wants for you — Beyond the Secret

16. To attract money, focus on wealth — The Secret To attract money in a spiritual way, focus on service. Spirit will deliver what you need — Beyond the Secret

17. You cannot catch any illness unless you think you can — The Secret Even the most spiritual people amongst us may suffer from disease. The causes for disease are numerous and are not always a result of your thoughts — Beyond the Secret

18. Love is the greatest emotion — The Secret. Love is not an emotion, it is a choice. Though it may be reflected into the emotions it exists beyond emotion in the realm of the soul — Beyond the Secret

19. You cannot help the world by focusing on negative things… and you only add to negativity by doing so — The Secret Be willing to totally embrace and see head on all of the problems of the world. You are the world. Then use the law of service and the law of sacrifice to make the difference in the world you are meant to — Beyond the Secret

20. We will never run out of good things because there’s more than enough to go around for everyone — The Secret. There is enough for our needs, but not our greeds. Global warming is such a problem right now precisely because as a species we are over-consuming and pretending the good things we want to indulge our egos with will never run out. Remember, the ego is afraid of not getting what it wants. It shies away from service and sacrifice. When we are truly identified with Spirit we want less, not more, because we want everyone to have enough, not just ourselves — Beyond the Secret

And finally, I would like to summarize some lessons that I would like you to take away from this book regarding the law of attraction itself.

Remember the law of attraction is neutral. It can be used at the level of Spirit, or the ego.

Each of us has the responsibility to learn the secret of Spirit so we are no longer tempted to feed just our egos. Remember…

The only difference in how you use the law of attraction is whether the motive behind using it is for egotistical or spiritual ends.

It isn’t always easy to understand our true motives. The ego has a lot of tricks for deluding us. Our ignorance, innocence, unconscious, and subconscious motives can block us from a clear perception of why we want what we do. Of course one of the safest bets is to want what is good for others, in addition to ourselves.

Proof that you are using the law of attraction well comes from the overall joy you feel from being filled with love, and living a good life no matter what your outer circumstances.

Living in this way is how I know in my own life that I am residing at the center of double dorje (spiritual enlightenment) cross. As I often tell myself, Regardless of my outer circumstances, if my heart is happy my world is good.

Again, Spirit is in everything that is and wants us ultimately to learn how to be conscious of, and loving towards, everything and everyone around us. Though I wish for everyone, as well as myself, an abundance of money, security, good-health, friends, and happiness, I know that I wish far more for an abundance of wisdom, love, compassion, and the capacity to do good no matter what life brings anyone. That is the joy of being at-one with spirit and living as a soul and why I leave you with this final thought:

The real secret to the law of attraction is using it in accordance with Spirit. Seek to attract the wisdom regarding how to do this.

I certainly hope this book has helped you along these lines. May you be filled with love, light, and spiritual power in your search!

Companies Spend an Average of $1,202 per Employee on Training. What is YOUR company spending on training?

Companies Spend an Average of $1,202 per Employee on Training

This is a benchmark that I have often been asked for, but didn't have until I ran into information on the 2008 Corporate Learning Factbook, an annual study of corporate training budgets, spending and trends published by Bersin & Associates.

When reviewing a total rewards program, it can be helpful to include data on employee training and development, relative to market practices.

Other findings from Bersin's research:

The average spending per learner of $1,202 is roughly equivalent to last year. Spending varies significantly from industry to industry; the highest spending industry is finance & insurance ($1,061 per learner) and the lowest is retail ($594 per learner).
21% of all training dollars - overall - are spent on leadership development and management/supervisory training, making this the largest area of investment on a cross-industry basis. Not surprising given the increasing evidence that we are or soon will be facing a real deficit of leadership talent.
While leadership/management training is a top priority overall, specific industries are investing heavily in other areas, including:
In telecommunications, 23% of training program dollars are spent on customer service training
Technology companies are spending 29% of training program dollars on sales training
Pharmaceuticals are spending 25% of training program dollars on compliance and other mandatory training
E-learning has grown dramatically. The use of self-study e-learning now accounts for 20% of student hours, up from 15% last year. Related to this, this year's study has also shown a sharp increase in new web-based and collaborative learning resources, including podcasts, blogs and wikis.

Being and Getting Better (Tiger Woods)

The greatest thing about tomorrow is I will be better than I am today. And that's how I look at my life. I will be better as a golfer, I will be better as a person, I will be better as a father, I will be a better husband, I will be better as a friend. That's the beauty of tomorrow. There is no such thing as a setback. The lessons I learn today I will apply tomorrow, and I will be better. Tiger Woods
Being better and getting better are central to the entrepreneurial life. Learning from today, learning from each perceived setback is mission critical to creating a better tomorrow.

We are human beings, not human “becomings” which is why we must enjoy, cherish and value who we are and where we are while preparing for where we will go and what we will become tomorrow.

How will you be better tomorrow while living today? What are you committed to do which will make you excellent today and extraordinary tomorrow?

Your goal is to be among the 20% of team players who do 80% of the work. And Never worry about who gets credit. Everyone always knows.

If you want to make others happy, start by living the kind of life and doing the kind of things that make you happy. Brian Tracy

Use Your Brain by Peter Thomson

Use your brain, not your endurance. Peter Thomson
One of the most important, and often overlooked, skills for entrepreneurial success is the ability to think and think deeply. Far too many entrepreneurs and business owners rely more on their ability to persevere and endure than on their ability to think strategically to solve problems and capitalize on opportunities.

Scheduling time to just think is mission critical to your success. In our fast-paced world fewer and fewer executives are carving out time to think strategically about their business. With text messages beeping, cell phones ringing, email notifications popping and twitter tweeting – there is a steady barrage of interruptions which end up preventing focused, meaningful thought.

Wise entrepreneurs block out specific chunks of time for thinking. Committing even fifteen minutes per day to uninterrupted thinking time can make a huge difference. Guard and protect this time with your life because ultimately your thinking time will be a life or death factor for your business.

Remember it is better to rely on your brain than on your endurance.

The Impact of Principles and Personalities

You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read. Charles “Tremendous” Jones
The answers to the challenges of life and business may not be found in the books you read or the people you meet, but often the answers come from what you discover about yourself as you interact with great principles and great personalities.

Over the past five years what are the principles (from books) and who are the personalities (people) who have made you who you are today? Make a list of both and the impact they have made on you, your life and career.

Five years will come and go and you will be somewhere else in 2014. Don’t end up there by chance – choose some books and choose some people to interact with which will make you a better person, a better entrepreneur and a better member of society.

Subject: Jim Rohn Tribute and Health Update

Over the past few months, we had the opportunity to gather together many of Jim Rohn's closest friends, business associates and speaking colleagues to share with Jim on video their stories and testimonials of how Jim has had an impact on them. The outcome was amazing and powerful - The Jim Rohn Tribute video.

I was honored to personally deliver and watch a 12-minute edited version of the Tribute with Jim last Tuesday and he was, to say the least, overwhelmed and blessed by all the emotion, gratitude and remarkable things that each of the contributors shared with him! He has since watched the entire three hours of full-length testimonials and stories that were shared and again, in his words, he was overwhelmed and so appreciative to all!

To watch the 12-minute edited Tribute version online, go to http://ping.fm/HWBZF.

We also showed the edited version of the Tribute on Saturday, March 28, to the more than 2,000 achievers gathered at the SUCCESS Symposium in Dallas. The viewing was followed by Jim being greeted over the phone by SUCCESS magazine publisher Darren Hardy and by a standing ovation from the crowd. It was a very special and powerful moment!

Jim shared with the audience that he is doing much better and he feels that it's a result in large part to all the prayers and thoughts from all of you! He is greatly appreciative. He also referenced the story of David in the bible, saying that he felt like he had been in the shadow of death for a period of time, but is now doing much better. He has gained 30 pounds and continues to gain strength every day. His hope and goal is to be able to start making some appearances in the fall (if not sooner).

Again, thank you all for your love, support, thoughts and prayers for Jim! It is making a difference. To watch the Tribute, share it with your friends or submit your own thoughts and tribute to Jim, go to http://ping.fm/aEM0q.

Everyone Sells by Patricia Fripp

Life is a series of sales situations, and the answer is no if you don't ask. Patricia Fripp

In order for a business to grow everyone within that company must sell. “Everyone Sells” should be the mantra of every entrepreneur and every small business owner on the planet.

This does not mean that everyone “closes” or that everyone “overcomes objections” or that everyone must “memorize the sales book.”

What it does mean is that everyone is focused on serving the customer, sharing the company story, inviting customer input and asking for business.

If no one from your business is positively engaging in sales situations your customer’s answer to any question will be no… When you create a “selling organization” and your people positively engage in every selling situation your customers will answer yes and your business will grow.

Does everyone sell in your business? If not, why not? What will you do to create confidence so your people can sell in every situation?

Let Failure Spur You On... by Denis Waitley

Let Failure Spur You On
By Denis Waitley

It has been said that failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker. Failure is delay, not defeat. It is a temporary detour, not a dead-end. Failure is something we can avoid only by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.

It may motivate you more toward your own goals to know that some of the most famous and well-known people in modern had to overcome obstacles as difficult as anyone's before greatest inventor, Leonardo da Vinci, were never built, and many wouldn't have worked anyway.
Edwin Land, the inventor of the Polaroid Land camera, failed absolutely at developing instant movies. He described his attempts as trying to use an impossible chemistry and a nonexistent technology to make an unmanufacturable product for which there was no discernable demand. These hurdles, in his opinion, created the optimum working conditions for the creative mind.

Joe Paterno, head coach of the Penn State University football team, was asked by the media how he felt when his team lost a game. He rapidly replied that losing was probably good for the team, since that was how the players learned what they were doing wrong.

Setbacks and failures mean little or nothing in themselves. The whole meaning of any setback - or any success, for that matter - is in how we take it and what we make of it.
We often look at high achievers and assume they had a string of lucky breaks or made it without much effort. Usually the opposite is true, and the so-called superstar or "overnight success" had an incredibly rough time before he or she attained any lasting success.

You may not know the background of a certain laundry worker who earned $60 a week at his job but had the burning desire to be a writer. His wife worked nights, and he spent nights and weekends typing manuscripts to send to publishers and agents. Each one was rejected with a form letter that gave him no assurance that his manuscript had even been read. I've received a few of those special valentines myself through the years, and I can tell you firsthand that they're not the greatest self-esteem builders.

But finally, a warm, more personal rejection letter came in the mail to the laundry worker, stating that, although his work was not good enough at this point to warrant publishing, he had promise as a writer and he should keep writing.
He forwarded two more manuscripts to the same friendly-yet-rejecting publisher over the next 18 months, and, as before, he struck out with both of them. Finances got so tight for the young couple that they had to disconnect their telephone to pay for medicine for their baby.
Feeling totally discouraged, he threw his latest manuscript into the garbage. His wife, totally committed to his life goals and believing in his talent, took the manuscript out of the trash and sent it to Doubleday, the publisher who had sent the friendly rejections. The book, titled Carrie, sold more than 5 million copies and, as a movie, became one of the top-grossing films in 1976. The laundry worker, of course, was Stephen King.

Think back to a time in your life you have found difficult. Try to see what you gained as a result of what you learned, what strength you found even in the most trying time - or what strength you find now in your having overcome it. Perhaps you may never have been aware of what you gained until you think about it now. The Chinese have a saying: "Eat bitter to taste sweet." It means that by living through painful times, we can become stronger people. I certainly agree with this, and the transformation depends on our ability to discover something beyond the pain.

A Compelling 'Why'
I have a suitcase for you. In that suitcase there is $1 million in cash. The suitcase is sitting in a building that is about an hour's drive from where you are now.
Here is the deal: All you have to do is get to this building in the next two hours. If you get there before the end of the two hours, I will hand you the suitcase, and you will be a million dollars richer.
There is one catch, however. If you are even one second late, our deal is off, and you will not get a dime. No exceptions! With that in mind, what time would you like to leave?

Most people would respond to that scenario by saying that they would leave right now. Wouldn't you?
So off you go. You jump into your car and start driving for the building. You are excited and are already starting to plan how you are going to spend your million dollars. Then, suddenly, the traffic comes to a complete stop. You turn on the radio and find that there has been a series of freak accidents between you and the building, and there is no way to get there!
Now what would you do? Would you give up and go back home? Or would you get out of your car and walk, run, hire a helicopter, or find some other way of getting to the building on time?
Now let's suppose for a minute that you are driving to an appointment at your dentist's office. The traffic again comes to a stop. Amazingly, there have been freak accidents between you and your dentist's office. What would you do then? Probably give up, go home, and reschedule!
What is the difference between these two situations? It all comes down to why. If the why is big enough, the how is usually not a problem. This compelling why is connected to your personal objectives, mission statement, or magnificent obsessions. It is the basis of your motivational support beam. Truly motivated people are able to identify and tap into the power of a compelling why in everything they do.

Make it a productive and successful week.

ReCreate Yourself

Every entrepreneur and small business owner must master the art of recreation, which really is the art of re-creation!
Global business expert Chet Holmes often speaks of the fact that for entrepreneurs the term, “working half days” literally means working a minimum of one half of twenty-four hours or twelve hours. For many, a twelve hour work day would be a welcome change from the fourteen, sixteen or eighteen hour days they are currently putting in.

Hard work, sacrifice and the determination to do whatever it takes to be successful is important. Yet studies continue to show that a blistering pace, with no recreation is simply not sustainable over the long-haul. Some entrepreneurs and business owners feel guilty if they go on vacation, go to a movie, sit back and watch a sporting event, go for a walk or hang out with loved ones. That is bad thinking!

Recreation is as critical to lasting success in business as a business plan and hard work. In order to stay sharp, maintain focus and have the resiliency required to sustain peak performance you simply must re-create yourself. A little bit of exercise, relaxation or family time can make all the difference for you and your business.

A bow which is forever strung tightly, rapidly loses is tightness and accuracy. You must allow yourself time to decompress, rejuvenate and then refocus. Nothing is more important.

What will you do this weekend to recreate and re-create yourself? Whatever you do this weekend – enjoy it!

Times Like This

In times like these, it helps to recall that there have always been times like these. Paul Harvey

Is the current economic situation brutal and difficult and challenging? Of course it is! But there have always been obstacles to growth, success and happiness. Many say that now is the time to hunker down and wait out the storm, yet there are entrepreneurs and small business owners everywhere who are experiencing unprecedented growth and extraordinary success.

Are there large numbers of businesses failing in today’s economy? Yes! But that has been the case forever. In fact, most businesses do fail - regardless of the economy.

Are there businesses succeeding in today’s economy? Yes! There has never been a better time to succeed and grow a business.

The question then becomes, if there have always been times like these – what are the successful entrepreneurs and business owners doing that the failures are not doing?

Could it be as simple as looking not at the external surroundings and market conditions, but rather, looking within at the opportunities you have to grow and prosper?

How do you look at your business and your entrepreneurial opportunities? Remember, your business has a future. The question is whether that future happens by chance or by choice and since there have always been times like this, you have no time to lose – only time to win! Create your time for success today!

LEADERSHIP is ability 2 get extraordinary achievement from ordinary people.Do the unexpected. U R safer moving forward than standing still!

Referrals aren't given easily. If U don't take the time 2 establish visibility and credibility, you're not going 2 get the referral-I.Misner

Referrals

Referrals aren't given easily. If you don't take the time to establish visibility and credibility, you're not going to get the referral. People have to get to know you. They have to feel comfortable with who you are and what you do. Dr. Ivan Misner

Far too often entrepreneurs and small business owners casually recite how important it is to get referral business. They can site the statistics which show how much more cost effective it is to develop referrals than it is to obtain new customers.

Unfortunately, most recite that story then retreat into their same old habits and patterns, ignoring the extraordinary opportunities right in front of them. Dr. Misner teaches the process required to gain visibility then credibility as the first two steps toward developing meaningful networks of connections and potential referral business.

What are you doing to become more visible? What are you doing to develop credibility as a thought leader in your field? Start your network-working for your business.

Thank you Dr. Ivan Miser. This has been brought to you by iLearningGlobal.tv EDGE Program, for small business owners. Training. Turn-key solution. http://ping.fm/XMQm7

DOES THIS IMPACT YOUR MOTIVATION?

[Thank you Steven Kay from ActionCoach for this]

DOES THIS IMPACT YOUR MOTIVATION?

Getting a Knockback
We all know how it feels to hear when you have just won a contract. You feel like punching the air! The opposite of that is the knockback. It comes in many shapes and sizes. Perhaps you’ve had a day of cold calling and nothing good has come of it. Maybe the contract you had counted on this month went to your competitor at the last minute. It makes you feel down and the mind chatter gets going ‘You didn’t do this right’, ‘You idiot, if you had spent an hour longer getting the service part right…’ the list goes on.

• Control the mind chatter – stop yourself talking yourself down and find something good to say to yourself. If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything at all!
• Learn from it and move on. Don’t allow it to become a bad day or a bad week just a bad 30 minutes.
• Take a 10 minute break. Get outside and walk. Clear your head and come back to it.
• Focus on the last positive thing that happened and wallow in how that felt.
• Think about the next thing you are working on that will give you that feeling and get on to it now.

A quiet period you’ve had three weeks of non stop activity. Have you ever noticed that the more you have on the more you do? Then it goes quiet – what’s going on? One day passes, then two and you start to get inactive and down. Your motivation dies and you stagnate, procrastinate and hide in passive marketing. You stop getting out of the house/office – it’s a downward spiral.

• Number one – do something. Immediately. Now. Anything at all that will get things moving again.
• Make the things you hate doing top priority every day. Hate cold calling? Do it first and save the other things for later. Far better that than to have it hanging over your head all day.
• Active Marketing. This means speaking to people. Not emailing, not sending letters but actually speaking. The more active you are, the better you feel and the busier your business will be.

Don’t know where you are heading?
When you don’t know why you are doing something, what it means to your business there is little motivation to do it. If you don’t have performance goals that are set in line with your end goal how will you know you are going in the right direction. How will you know you are succeeding? How do you feel good about what you do every day?

• Have you got a marketing plan? A Business Plan? Do they sound like huge tasks to you? They don’t have to be. Spend 2 hours putting together a plan and some deadlines.
• Use Outlook – print out the next month and put in some deadlines.
• It’s 90% about the ‘why’ and 10% about the ‘how’ when it comes to achieving goals. Make sure the ‘why’ is there and the ‘how’ will become easy.

Pain and Pleasure
Motivation is all about either moving away from pain or towards pleasure. Why would you be motivated if you have nothing to lose or nothing to gain?
• Identify what you will gain by doing whatever it is and what you will lose if you don’t.
• Everything you say yes to involves saying no to something else. What are you saying no to when you say yes to procrastination?

Fear of Failure
The biggest stumbling block to doing what we should is fear of failing. We don’t do so many things because we might fail. ‘I’ll look stupid and it will damage my reputation’ Sound familiar? How will you know if you will fail if you don’t try?
• Find a mentor – someone who has been there and done it. It will give you the proof you need to know that it works.
• Stop preparing presentations that may never get used. Get out there and find the opportunity and then prepare.

The Learning Organization

An organization's ability to learn, and translate that learning into action rapidly, is the ultimate competitive business advantage. Jack Welch

Truly we are living in the era of the learning organization, where those who continually learn, and constantly apply what they learn, will dominate their markets. Those content with yesterday’s answers, with yesterday’s strategies will soon find themselves as yesterday’s news.

Change is the name of the game and effective change is the result of continuous learning. What are you doing to create a learning organization? How are you fostering training, education, meaningful dialogue and deep discussions about principles and strategies that impact your team, group or organization?

The old phrase, “You learn something new every day,” should probably be turned into the question, “Do you learn something new every day?” Do you?

Tip of the Week: Build a Great Elevator Pitch!

Tip of the Week: Build a Great Elevator Pitch!

The average attention span is under a minute. That is why an Elevator Pitch is so important in capturing people’s interest. So named because it should be short enough that it can be delivered in an elevator ride, an Elevator Pitch briefly describes a product or service, along with its key benefits, and may also touch on the shortcomings of its competition. An Elevator Pitch is not necessarily designed to convince someone to buy a product or service, but rather to inform and intrigue. If you make them curious, they will want to learn more!

When delivering an Elevator Pitch, you should:

1. Be clear and precise – get to the point immediately!

2. Know your target market, and what type of person you are talking to, so you can tailor your message to the audience

3. Include a “hook” that will ensure the person takes action afterward

Here is a sample Elevator Pitch that will help you promote the Millionaire Mind Intensive:

"Have you heard of the Millionaire Mind Intensive? It’s a 3-day seminar designed by T. Harv Eker, the author of the New York Times bestseller, 'Secrets of the Millionaire Mind'. When I attended the seminar, it literally changed my life. Not only did I learn about how your own personal Money Blueprint determines how much money you will earn and save during your lifetime, but I also learned how to re-set my Money Blueprint to a much higher setting, right there at the seminar. But aside from money matters, the Millionaire Mind Intensive teaches you about personal development and success strategies. Eker’s company is called Peak Potentials Training, and their company slogan is 'Change Lives'. I can tell you I am proof positive that they do – it changed my life. You should go. Visit MillionaireMind.com to find out more."
-------------------

This is James, I DID go to Millionaire Mind Intensive and it changed my life. I use iLearningGlobal.tv to keep me fulfilled between my programs!

Cheers!

“If you listen to your fears, you will die never knowing what a great person you might have been.” Robert H. Schuller. Just Do It!

NO FEAR!

“If you listen to your fears, you will die never knowing what a great person you might have been.” Robert H. Schuller

It has also been said, “Of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these – I might have been!”

Fear is an incredible force in your life – fear of failure, fear of rejection and even fear of success can influence your behavior and action. Living by fear is very exhausting and prevents so many from achieving true success and true greatness.

As an entrepreneur or small business owner check your fear quotient and discover what might be holding you back. Also check the fear factor of your employees to see if you are creating a “no-fear” environment where employees can thrive, innovate and excel.

This was brought to you by iLearningGlobal's EDGE Small Business Series.

As a member of E.D.G.E you will have access to strategies, tactics and insight from the world’s leading authorities on business excellence. The resources you will be able to tap into include:

NO RULES HERE!

There are no rules here - we're trying to accomplish something. Thomas A. Edison

Balancing structure and discipline with innovation can be a challenging catch-22 in business. Too many rules and too much structure can prevent you from accomplishing the important activities of innovation and continuous improvement.

Try keeping rules small an unobtrusive on the front end of your projects where creativity is critical. Keep structure and discipline in your execution, processes, and systems.

Are you fostering creativity and innovation? Do you need to adjust your front-end rules? Evaluate the environment you are creating in your team or group and make sure your rules don’t prevent you from accomplishing the extraordinary!

Lance our 7 yr old honoree for Crohn's & Colitis Team Challenge GREW 2 lbs and 2 inches, & made us this pic! WOW! http://ping.fm/vqAvD

Remember, you will succeed in the same proportion of the things that you do for others that you are not expected to do. STAND OUT!

A BETTER BUSINESS

A BETTER BUSINESS

During the Great Depression, while most businesses perished, many actually rose to become great powers after the storm was over. Those who did, did so while getting better, by going out and trying to sell their better services to the public, by being proactive. They did not ask, what can customers do for us in these tough times? Rather, they thought “how can we make it better for our customers so that in these tough times they prefer us over everyone else?”

Think & brainstorm how you can provide an even better product or service than what you have been providing so far. If you own a Cleaning Service, think of ways how you can clean better, faster, greener. Don’t cut corners, clean them! Your customers will recognize you are worth the money you charge and will happily recommend you to their friends and family.

Do more than what you are expected to do. I am not a fan of discounts, what discounts do is educate your customers that first, your business can take charging less; and second, it’s okay to wait until the next discount comes around.

Instead, charge a fair price and do more than what’s expected of you in the deal. Throw in a bonus for good measure. For you, this bonus might represent a negligible cost, but the value you add is much greater, and your customers will appreciate it. If you sell vitamins, give the customer a mini/travel size vitamins jar for free. If you charge by the hour, work 65 or 70 minutes in your project or case and bill 1 hour, and make sure to let your client know the extra time devoted to her.

If you have a website, leave links to your site at every place you can do so for free. Post useful comments in blogs or forums with a small blurb about you in the bottom if possible. Don’t make it a promotional pitch, people will tune that out and possibly even blacklist you if you come out too strong. You want to be known for the good opinions, recommendations or suggestions you share and eventually become an authority in your field not a nuisance.

Attend networking events. Check out your local chamber of commerce, business association, alumni association, any place where there may be professionals that gather together in an effort to grow and promote their businesses. This may take some time and commitment on your part, but eventually, it will pay big dividends.

Business cards & flyers. Don’t underestimate their power. They are inexpensive and easy to carry around. Always have a bundle of them with you. Leave them at the supermarket, at your dentist’s office, the pizza parlor, the Chinese take-out, in bulletin boards … anywhere where there is pedestrian traffic or where people might have to sit and wait. When you’re stuck waiting you will read what’s around you, and often more than once each piece of literature. Make it a habit to never leave your home or office without them, and to always leave a stack of them in a public place. Think of how many more places people might get the chance to learn about you and your business if you do this every time you go out.

Nothing lasts forever, and tough times are not the exception. Brighter times will come and if you have done your very best for each and every one of your customers, you will come out ahead. History has shown us that recessions and tough times always come about in cycles. Don’t think about how bad things are, think about how good and how much better you are getting, how you are finding new & better ways to do your business. Get a vision of you succeeding and don’t let go off that vision.

One of the best business tips for tough times I once read is this: “Remember, you will succeed in the same proportion of the things that you do for others that you are not expected to do”. It makes sense. If you do only what’s already expected in the transaction how can you stand out? www.cpcwebsolutions.com Thanks Steven Kay in Australia!
